It's not all cameos, either, as we find certain backdrops and areas are purposely set up to directly nod back to iconic stages, concept art, and more from the Capcom universe. There's even a character who was famously not in Street Fighter 2 as the rumored Sheng Long (who came about thanks to a translation error in Ryu's win quote, and was later ironed into SF history as a now infamous April Fools' joke) actually appears in World Tour as well. The fighters names were "Scott" and "Max," the latter of which can be discovered here nearly three decades later in World Tour mode. In the earlier versions of Street Fighter 2 (this was changed in later ones due to the optics) the attract mode presentation starts with a crowd surrounding two fighters, one of which punches out the other before we see the "Street Fighter" title sequence play out. There's another iconic figure you very well may not even know the name of, but have definitely seen especially if you're old enough to remember arcades with actual video games in them. One of more prominent cameos is one we actually reported on just before the game dropped as non-playable Street Fighter 1 character Retsu pops up fairly early on in players' World Tour journeys.
